Customer Shipping Instructions

Please follow these instructions exactly!

Make sure firearm is unloaded!!!

  • Remove any accessories such as scopes, bipods, lights, bayonets, and safety locks.
  • Remove barrel(s) from pivot guns (e.g. double barrel shotguns, HR Topper sled rifles etc.) to reduce package size.
  • Wrap individual components with bubble wrap securing it well with tape. Pay particular attention to muzzle and breech ends of barrels, magazine tubes receiver and butt.
  • Package firearm in a hard case. This is especially important for long guns, such as flintlock or percussion rifles/fowlers, military muskets, and military firearms. It is also best to use hard cases for handguns.
  • If you don't have a hard case, find or make a sturdy box to contain the components.
  • Include a completed copy of the Gunsmith Repair Order in the hard case.  This is mandatory!  Please Contact Me to obtain the form if you have not already done so .
  • If this is an NFA registered firearm (e.g. short barreled shotgun/rifle, automatic rifle, etc.) include a copy of the NFA documentation with the Gunsmith Repair Order.
  • Pad inside of case/box extensively to prevent movement of components. use bubble wrap, newspaper, foam materials (styrofoam peanuts really don't work that well...but if that's all you have, pack it in tight).
  • A thorough wrapping with stretch packing film over the latches of the hard case and length and width of cardboard box helps secure things well.
  • Use an exterior cardboard box to contain the hard case or primary cardboard box.
Interior box or case should not be free to move in this exterior container.
  • Tape all seams and ends with packing tape.
  • It is best not to have any markings on the outer packaging that it contains firearms.
  • Always use package tracking and signature upon delivery.
  • Always insure your package.
  • Email me the tracking number once the package is shipped.

NOTE:  If the packaging appears damaged upon receipt, I will not accept delivery.  I am not responsible for damages received during shipping. I will take photos and provide them to you immediately.

In most cases, firearms mailed to a gunsmith for repair do not require transfer though an FFL holder and can be sent directly from the owner through USPS, UPS or FedEx (FedEx is preferred for handgun shipment).

Most States however have restrictions requiring firearms (especially handguns) to be transferred through an FFL.  You can have your local FFL dealer take care of the packaging and shipping your firearms. I can email you a copy of my FFL to share with your contact if you chose to go this route.
